Overview

Research tells us that people are happier and more productive in an environment where they feel they can be themselves, where they are included, and without the fear of isolation, ridicule or abuse.

As more people feel empowered to more openly identify with their true gender identity and sexual orientation at work, organisations are having to get better at truly accepting, understanding and including people with different sexual orientations and gender identities.

However, homophobia, biphobia and transphobia are still ingrained in many organisations, which negatively affect the wellbeing of LGBT+ people, teamworking, productivity, employee relations and employee engagement.

What you'll learn

  • Knowledge of LGBT+ language and terminology that will reduce your fear of ‘saying the wrong thing' or causing offence
  • Common challenges faced by LGBT+ people and their effects, to help you build stronger empathy among your colleagues for better working relationships and wellbeing
  • The business case for better inclusion at work and your legal obligations to protect and support LGBT+ people
  • How to identify and challenge inappropriate behaviour, and ideas to create more inclusive teamworking and environments for LGBT+ people you work with
  • Taking steps towards building a more LGBT+ inclusive culture across your organisation

Who is it for?

  • Leaders and managers seeking to create an inclusive environment for LGBT+ people
  • HR staff with responsibility for building a more LGBT+ inclusive culture
  • Customer/client facing or frontline staff who interact with LGBT+ people
  • People of all gender identities and sexualities, including new and willing LGBT+ allies
